Some years back I made a quick sketch while visiting Kona, Hawaii.  Every once in a while when I come across this sketch, I scan, reprint and add more to it.  Essentially, it is decaying with each generation of print, but at the same time, vibrance is added with each new layer.  This is probably the fifth generation of the original sketch.

This is another piece with a similar feel as the art below.  This one has a cartoony personality.  It's another piece inspired by the flowing sound of music.

Light and Dark

I love making these kinds of organic, free flowing, abstract art pieces.  It's quite soothing and gratifying to create.  The biggest challenge is feeling the line between 'not being enough' and 'what is too much'.

Back in early September, my adopted mother passed away.  This was the art I created just before, during and just after she died.  It is an image of moving into the next realm, which flows seamlessly through time and space.  Always spinning along in a unique, personal journey.  I was so entranced in this world that I could not stop until it was finished.  Some intense emotions they were.

road trip part 1

I just had to illustrate the roadtrip from Wimberley Texas to Peabody, Massachusetts. 

Aside from a white-out blizzard in the mountains of West Virginia, the weather was great and the adventure was really enjoyable and safe. Cheers to my new life in New England!

World's Largest Rocker

The Great Migration from Texas to Massachusetts is underway! A good friend, a 16' rented Penske truck, and all of my belongings are making our way northeastward.

This gigantic rocking chair is along Route '66 in Cuba, Missouri. Certainly a sight worth seeing, with a fabulous giftshop as well.

I've always been a journalist of my own time and place. I can look at a piece of art I created 25 years ago and remember the music I listened to at the time.

window seat view

Traveling from Boston to Austin. I'm the person who insists on a window seat and then has to make a few trips to the restroom. And I come back to my seat with a fresh cup of coffee. And then I have to wake up the seat mates to get out again. Shouldn't there be some kind of ejector system built into the middle and window seats so we don't disturb the aisle seat person?

The flight was long enough to sketch and ink this drawing while flying. Luckily, I pencil'd in the colors for later reference. The landscape changed from rolling farmland of Pennsylvania, to wooded mountains of West Virginia and Tennessee.

New Bedford, Massachusetts

Nine years ago I read the Moby Dick novel with rie Anderson performed her multi-media "Songs and Stories of Moby Dick", I attended not once, but twice. First was the kick-off of the tour in Dallas. Months later, a friend and I flew to New York for the final night's performance of the tour. I was hooked on reading about the great whaling era in New England.

So on a recent visit to New Bedford, I could really feel the history of the town. I've dreamt about it too. Ahoy there, Matey!

Ogunquit, Maine

Perkins Cove lobster boats. When I was in the 5th and 6th grades, I lived in Virginia. Our American and Virginia history teacher would set aside lecturing of Fridays to let us draw pictures from the history book. For some reason, I feel like I'm back in that class while drawing these New England sketches.

Marblehead, Massachusetts

The Barnacle seafood restaurant. I didn't eat here, but did explore the rocks at low tide. There are some wonderful creatures in the pools around the rocks.

Along the banks of the Mystic River. This scene instantly reminded me of the canals in Bruges, Belgium.
