house on a hill

In this part of Texas, the rolling hills and ridges create optical illusions. Distance and altitude of an object are constantly playing tricks with the eyes. From this point of view, the house is high on the hill. The closer I get to the house, it appears lower to the foot of the hill. Just a few yards from this spot, the house appears to be higher. Even with these illusions, I have no problems with compass bearings in this area. Never a dull visual moment around here.

Just a quick warm-up sketch.

pasture

An old trail that runs through a ranch pasture near home. On the old plank of wood with faded paint is the word SQUAW. I have no idea what this signifies, but it's fun to come up with my own ideas.

coffee and pie a la mode

Playing with perspective and dimension. My mother always said don't play with your food, but this was fun.

looking up

A giant Bald Cypress on the banks of the Blanco River. The base of these trees are almost large enough to live in. This was sketched at the Rio Bonito lodge cabins along the river in Wimberley, TX.

snowflakes

Another quick version. I've been busy with other projects, so I've had not much time for the-Fun-Of-It drawings lately. I'm working on designing, and then painting a 2'x12' mural, and several smaller signs. It's a great project, so I'll have more on that later. Stay warm out there!

behind the tire shop

Before the new year, I had to have my truck inspected. I sketched this while waiting for an hour. There are 2 inspection shops in town. The 'inspector' at the other shop was out sick for the day. Everyone raced to this shop, including me. That's life in a small town I s'pose.

hills and trees

Sketched from the edge of a pasture close to home. Very close to this is a hidden natural spring that bubbles up through the limestone from underground. I hope it stays hidden. And bubbling too.

the bonfire and the big bright moon

New Year's night, the sky was as clear as can be. We were all aglow.

a splarkling new year

That's me with sparklers near the campfire on a very cold, moonlit New Year's night. With plenty of rain this winter, we are finally able to have campfires at home again. It was the perfect way to welcome the new year. And a happy New Year to you, foks !
