Pelecyphora strobiliformis
From my cactus and succulent plant collections. Pine Cone cactus. It really does exist.
Succulents
This is a pinecone cactus. I love the alien, otherworldy shapes of succulents. Most of them, in my opinion have a happy, cartoon look to them. With the hot dry summers in this part of the world, these are not difficult to grow. Although I've killed a couple of jade plants, probably from over watering.

Duck Race
Over the weekend the local Emergency Medical Services folks held their annual Duck Race fundraiser event. You buy a duck for five bucks. They are flipped out of the rubber rescue raft into the water, the first duck to reach the finish line, about 200 or so feet downstream, wins the prize.
This year the event was held at Blue Hole, a local swimming hole on Cypress Creek. The creek is spring fed, so the water is cold year round. They guy on the raft was dreading the plunge. For this year's event, there was no current & barely a breeze. It took a few "duck wranglin' cowboys" in kayakes to herd the ducks downstream. This is a fun family event, and a wonderful photo opportunity!

Asparagus Fern
Ferns are light and airy. As is my brain today. Having had my wisdom teeth pulled a couple days ago, this was sort of a medicinal subject matter to work with today.

Chinese Firedrill
Two pieces. I went through a "light up art" phase a few years ago. The yellow is the inner-most level. Small lights make the yellow light up. The front louvres open and close. They make great night time art.
Constructed of wood, masonite and a bit of luck. Painted with acrylics. Lit with Christmas type lights.
