woodland flowers

Lillies of the Valley and woodland Violets.  They smell so wonderful and they are everywhere.

I finally got a new Moleskine brand sketchbook. I just love these little books.  The paper is thick and buttery smooth.  The size is perfect, 5.5 x 7".  These pages will inspire me to make more art.  It's like reuniting with an old friend.

World's Largest Rocker

The Great Migration from Texas to Massachusetts is underway! A good friend, a 16' rented Penske truck, and all of my belongings are making our way northeastward.

This gigantic rocking chair is along Route '66 in Cuba, Missouri. Certainly a sight worth seeing, with a fabulous giftshop as well.

More roadtrippin' drawings to come.

electric chickens

After 6 weeks in New England, I'm back in Texas. I have 2 weeks to pack up, and then move to New England. I've always wanted to live there, and now it's happening! Yikes!

I'm excited but will really miss Wimbereley. Such a great little community of creative, eclectic hippies, with the mixture of wealthy, retiring Republicans from Houston and Dallas. I wish the best of good energies to Wimberley for preserving it's charm and beauty. And thank you for the past eight years of inspiration.

music and art

Paul Simon on my boombox while painting. Graceland, indeed!

I've always been a journalist of my own time and place. I can look at a piece of art I created 25 years ago and remember the music I listened to at the time.

snow study

I love the way architectural angles become softer, more organic with snow. For me, this snow is a new challenge in art. There are so many delicate nuances to convey. I am enjoying both the weather and the art challenge.

downtown Boston

I started this drawing during a visit in November, and just finished last week. Now, during this current visit, New England is completely covered with snow.

piglet pods from the pork tree plant

This originated in a dream. Also, there were grasshoppers, calves and rabbits. It was fauna melting into flora.

downtown Drippin' Springs

A quick location sketch, inked later. It's too hot out there already.

Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge

What do Bostonians call this bridge? The formal name sure is a mouthful of words.

underneath Boston

Northbound through the Thomas P. O'Neill Tunnel. It's like driving through a science fiction novel. Wooosh!

windows

I don't know if it was some kind of a Big Brother complex I was having, but there seems to be an extraordinary abundance of windows in Medford Massachusetts.

window seat view

Traveling from Boston to Austin. I'm the person who insists on a window seat and then has to make a few trips to the restroom. And I come back to my seat with a fresh cup of coffee. And then I have to wake up the seat mates to get out again. Shouldn't there be some kind of ejector system built into the middle and window seats so we don't disturb the aisle seat person?

The flight was long enough to sketch and ink this drawing while flying. Luckily, I pencil'd in the colors for later reference. The landscape changed from rolling farmland of Pennsylvania, to wooded mountains of West Virginia and Tennessee.

sunrise thunderstorm

When the storm rolled in at sunrise, the sky glowed like a fresh bruise. Yellow and orange, deep green and blue. It ominously foreshadowed what came next...lightning and booming thunder all around. The bolts were searing white with electric blue edges. I sat on the porch and sketched this after the power went out. This happens often during storms. Who needs electronic technology when there's Nature's light show?

abandoned treehouse

This tree is no more than 200 yards from my house. I walk past it and sometimes stop to look at it. I've never climbed it but would definitely have been up there when I was a kid. Back then, I loved making forts and hidden 'secret' places in the woods of Virginia. I revered nature in the early years, as I always will.

Concord, Massachusetts

The Old Manse house is next to the battle field of the first Revolutionary War encounter in Concord, Massachusetts. This was also a meeting place for Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne and Henry David Thoreau.

the cancelled flight

Boston to Austin. What did we do before cell phones?

30,000 feet above Pennsylvania

Sketched on the plane heading to Boston. I sketched and inked this on the plane, later Photoshop'd the colors. A window seat, sketchbook and itunes are the perfect way to pass the time on an airplane.
