an evening swim

I was talked into going swimming at Blue Hole yesterday evening. Blue Hole is a length of Cypress Creek here in Wimberley, where the public is allowed access to the water. Most areas with any sort of water access are privately owned with well posted "no trespassing" signs. Normally this place is teaming with tourists, vacationers & local folks. Yesterday was a treat...around 6:30 p.m. or so, just a few people were out enjoying the water and company of friends. As one of my friends said, it is impossible to have any sort of bad thoughts while floating in this water. On 100+ degree temperatures, this cold water is just about heaven.

boys

These boys climb way up into the trees and perform all sorts of high testosterone induced stunts. Sometimes, as a former lifegaurd, I just cannot watch them.
This was sketched at Blue Hole, in Wimberly...one of the local swimming places around the area. The creek is spring fed, the trees provide lots of shade. When it's really hot, this place is pure paradise!

The girls float upstream and watch the boys heading downstream.

Cypress Creek

Cypress tree on the banks of the creek. This local swimmin' hole is relatively cool and very shady. It's a great retreat from the insanely hot sun. This is going to be a brutally hot summer.

Duck Race

Over the weekend the local Emergency Medical Services folks held their annual Duck Race fundraiser event. You buy a duck for five bucks. They are flipped out of the rubber rescue raft into the water, the first duck to reach the finish line, about 200 or so feet downstream, wins the prize.
This year the event was held at Blue Hole, a local swimming hole on Cypress Creek. The creek is spring fed, so the water is cold year round. They guy on the raft was dreading the plunge. For this year's event, there was no current & barely a breeze. It took a few "duck wranglin' cowboys" in kayakes to herd the ducks downstream. This is a fun family event, and a wonderful photo opportunity!
